How to Become a Real Estate Agent in Las Vegas

Becoming a real estate agent is a great career move. Many people in real estate come from various careers and occupations, as well as different stages in their lives, but what they have in common is a drive for success.

They also all ask a common question at the start of their journey into real estate: How do I become a real estate agent?

Each state has its own rules and regulations regarding the process for real estate licensing, but the general requirements are:

  • • You must be 18 years of age.
  • • You must be a legal U.S. resident.
  • • You must complete the required pre-license education.
  • • You must pass the real estate license examination in your state.

Is Real Estate Right for You?

Before embarking on this career journey, be sure real estate is the right choice for you. As a real estate agent, every day is working for yourself, which means managing your own office, leads, business relationships, documentation and contacts.

You may also want to speak to a local agent to gain some insight into their day-to-day life and responsibilities. Real estate is a long-term career, so before you invest the time and energy into your education and licensing, be sure that it’s the right career choice.

Requirements for Nevada Real Estate Licensing

In addition to the general requirements, to become a Nevada real estate agent, you must:

1. Register for 120 Hours of Required Education

Licensing in Nevada requires completion of 120 hours of Nevada Real Estate Division-approved education. You can complete your education requirements in several ways, such as live classroom courses offered by real estate schools. In Nevada, this is called pre-licensing. Be sure to enroll in a school with a solid reputation that’s focused on student success.

2. Complete a Background Check and Fingerprinting

You must submit to fingerprinting and complete a background check from the Department of Public Safety.

3. Pass the Nevada Real Estate Licensing Exam

You must register to take the Nevada Real Estate Salesperson Licensing Exam and pass it. It’s best to do this close to the time you’ll finish your education requirements to ensure your best chance of success. It may take several weeks to process your exam, background check and other requirements.

Be sure to thoroughly prepare for your exam. Not everyone earns a passing exam score on the first try, but diligent studying and preparation will help you. Taking a few practice exams and revisiting weak areas of your learning will help you prepare.

4. Apply for a Nevada Real Estate Salesperson License

The real estate license checklist and application is found on the State of Nevada RED website. You must show proof of having passed the Nevada Real Estate Salesperson Licensing Exam within a year of your application.

5. Find a Real Estate Broker

Holding a Nevada state license permits you to practice real estate in the state, so it’s time to find a broker to sponsor you. In Nevada, all licensees are required to be licensed under a broker. Be sure to do your research to find the real estate broker that will work best for you.
